Good pickup for the playoffs and a replacement for Weber next year.

Dont you guys need offense? U just loaded up more on defense.........
Little too much on what Nashville gave up, but hope it works out........

Limit his time at 5 on 5 and keep him on the ice every time Preds are on the PK and you will love BIG Hal Probably the best D on the PK at 5 on 3

I second this. This is a bizarre trade and only makes sense if Poile has an inkling that they won't be able to sign both Weber and Suter and may be shipping one of them off for a few top 6 forwards.

Are we in the Twilight Zone? Stop with the "Nashville needs scoring" nonsense. Look at the league leaders in GF.

Hal Gill on the PK results in the commentators saying "That play is broken up by the LOOOONG reach of Hal Gill" for the entire duration of the penalty.

On the PK, his stick just seems like it's EVERYWHERE.

"Preds need scoring" is the new "nobody goes to Preds games" ... try to keep up.

I like this move, as long as it's not the only one.

Well, going into the deadline Poile was looking for 2 things:
1) More depth and size on the blueline
2) Top-6 forward

Got the first part done, now for the second (and hardest part).

This is a good deal for both teams. I'd say the Preds overpaid but Gill is a good underrated no nonsense type dman.

I'm sure you Western Conference fans dont get to see him that much but he's a monster in his own end. Good 2nd or 3rd pairing guy. Leads the league in blocked shots per 60 minutes.

Dude the PLAYOFFS are different then the regular season,
if it wasnt for Rinne, u would have not made it that far into the playoffs
sorry dont care what the season stats are, its all even when the playoffs starts.
So it you are gonna stick to statictics, then i feel bad for you...........

Bingo. It's a good move by Poile, because we don't lose anybody on the current roster and a second-rounder won't help win in the playoffs THIS YEAR. Hate to see Geoffrion go, but at least it's to the most appropriate team.

The irony is that this statement comes from an Islanders fan. We should be feeling bad for you, not the other way around...

The Preds scoring didn't do them in the playoffs last year, bud. And statements like "If it weren't for your goaltender, you wouldn't have made it as far." are the stupidest thing you can possibly say. Just like "If it weren't for Lundqvist, the Rangers would have much worse goaltending." See how stupid that looks?

And I reference the Rangers because I can prety much guarentee you don't even know what the playoffs are unless you watch the Rangers.

For playoff needs: Gill is a good pick. He brings a lot on the PK. He defines the word Veteran

Not so good: He is old, slow, 0 offense capability.

Trade overview: Preds over paid. Boom, Slaney and 2nd rounder is to much paid for a player that is very near the end of the rope

Montreal have a chance to better 2 young guns for many years to come and that 2nd rounder is a steal.

The only way this comes near to something balanced is if the Predators makes it to the Stanley cup final this year.

I would like to see that happen for the Nashville franchise but my money is not on them in the west

I see this more as 2 different trades (there is a 5th round pick coming back to Nashville). So really it was Gill for a 2nd rounder and Geoffreon and Slaney for a 5th. Overall I think it was pretty fair. Boomer's days in Nashville were done. He was not going to get back to the big club unless someone got injured. I see this as a classy move on Poile's part by trading him to Montreal (where his family has so much history) rather than holding on to him and letting him rot in the minors.

Funny, bc if i recall last years playoffs, Rinne stood on his head for Nashville to move far into the playoffs, an alot of the playoff games Nashville won was bc of Rinne, not your goal scoring. Thats the reason why u lost bc not enough scoring.
So think what u want, stick with your stats an good luck.....bud

So beautifully put. Thank you for that. You got two young AHL players and a pick. No current roster hits for us to get Gill. Maybe one of them will turn out to be great. Deal looks to be about right to just slightly high to me.
